McDonald’s Hokkaido Escape

Updated: Oct 20, 2020

We could try to keep it classy, but inside, we all love ourselves some Macs.

Besides the wholesome nostalgia, my unending love for nuggets and curry sauce.. McDonald’s release some pretty enticing feasts. Especially if they pay homage to anything Japanese.

Hokkaido Salmon burger, Starz(tm) Potato & Yuzu Cream Cheese Pie

Their current specials include the

Hokkaido Salmon burger, Starz Potato and Yuzu Cream Cheese pie.

Panko-crusted Salmon patty, roasted sesame mayo, lettuce & sliced onion

I’m not sure what I expected from the burger, but I’m happy to report its a full slab of fresh salmon thats breaded with panko and deep fried. The patty is a little thin so go for a double if you want more meat. I like the combination with the lettuce and roasted sesame mayo. There’s a hint of wasabi in it (I could be totally wrong) that makes the sauce more enticing, but it is not spicy at all.

Star-shaped hash browns for the kid at heart

The Starz (tm) Potato sounds like my email from the 90s, but is absolutely fun to eat. Basically, it’s a star shaped hash brown. But better with more exposed crispy crust.

Creamy & tangy Yuzu Cream Cheese filling

The Yuzu Cream Cheese pie is less sweet than expected. Half filled with Cream Cheese and a Yuzu jelly/custard, it’s an interesting update to your usual Apple pie, but not one of their best variations. Trust me, Chocolate pie is the best.

Overall, a light hearted and enjoyable meal! I felt like a kid eating the Starz Potato, which might be the only item I would eat again. The burger and pie were good as well.. but let’s be real. Nothing can beat the nuggets.

Are you a loyal Mac’s fan or do you dabble in their seasonal menus? What’s your favourite item to order? Leave a comment and let me know!

Love,

Mich
